What does a Drafting Specialist do?

As a Drafting Specialist, you will leverage your design expertise to transform conceptual ideas into formal, detailed drawings. Your role involves preparing precise drawings and specifications for in-house construction projects, ensuring that every detail aligns with industry standards. Utilizing your knowledge of materials and fabrication techniques, you'll evaluate and inspect completed projects, both in-house and contracted, to maintain our commitment to excellence.

Requirements for this Drafting Specialist job

As a Drafting Specialist, you must possess a strong command of computer-aided design (CAD) software and the ability to produce P&IDs and Isometric piping drawings for processing plant design. Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy are crucial, as you'll manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring error-free work. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for effective collaboration with Project Managers and Engineers, along with excellent time management to meet deadlines.

Clear communication skills are essential for creating documentation and reports, while assisting in the design, planning, and specification writing for new construction and renovations. You will also need to maintain meticulous records of tracings, prints, blueprints, and shop drawings, and assist in field inspections of contract work. Flexibility is key, as travel may reach up to 30% based on workload, and you should be ready to take on additional duties as they arise.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

• Ability to operate computer-aided design (CAD) software
• Ability to produce P&IDs, Isometric piping drawings layouts and so on for Processing plant design
• Ability to multitask and manage several projects at a time
• Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
• Interpersonal skills to work within a team taking direction from Project Managers and Engineers
• Time management skills to complete error-free work within the required timeframe
• Communication skills with an emphasis on reading and writing for creating documentation and reports
• Assist in the design planning and drawing of plans and writing of specifications for new construction and renovation
• Maintain record files of tracings prints blueprints specification books and shop drawings
• Assist in field inspection of contract new construction and renovation work
• Travel fluctuates depending on work-load and can range up to 30%
